Let's get MedicalOn Friday, September 13, each Mercy student will know which of their three choices from more than 16 Intersession learning experiences they will be attending. Intersession, Mercy’s “learning outside the walls” program happens twice in a Mercy student’s high school career. This year it is scheduled for the first week of March. Teachers and staff supervise and plan each each week-long course. These were introduced during an August 20 morning assembly and students were given until September six to make their final selections.
This year, most of the Intersession offerings focus on the Critical Concerns of the Sisters of Mercy: Women, Immigration, Anti-Racism, Nonviolence and the care of the Earth. The others compliment Mercy’s Special Programs in science & health care, technology, visual arts, and the performing arts.
Program costs run from $75 for local courses to $1,100 which include travel, room and board. While most of the excursions have students discovering San Francisco's wealth of art, culture and professions for women run by women, other Intersession courses will bring our students away from home, like to the Mexican border to learn about immigration or on regional college tours on the east and west coasts.
