Two seniors on the varsity volleyball team recently received Honorable Mention awards for their efforts this season on the court.
Mhakela Inguillo and Lauren Trinh were recognized by the West Bay Athletic League Central Coast Section.
Lauren, a setter and opposite position, led the team in service aces with 229 (a service attempt that directly results in a point won); ball handling attempts with 921; and was second on the team with 205 assists. She also finished with 27 solo blocks and 16 block assists (both third on the team).
Mhakela, the team’s libero - a defensive position, recorded 221 service aces (second on the team) and had zero ball handling errors (team leader) on 271 ball handling attempts. She led the team with 608 digs and 7.7 digs per set. Mhakela also led the team with 464 receptions (first player to receive a serve) and 5.9 receptions per set.
“Our athletes work very hard all season to reach their personal and team bests and it’s very exciting when they are recognized for the efforts they’ve put forward,” said Sheri Sam, athletic director for Mercy.
The volleyball team finished 11-21 this season.
