Course Description: Are you tired and bored of the same old daily routine? Would you like to escape the stress of all that school work? Engage both your mind and body, and discover the simple pleasures of gliding peacefully through a quiet cove, the complex demands of responding to the interaction between rock wall and your determination, and the challenge of a ropes course. Take pleasure in walking on some of the most scenic trails the Bay Area has to offer, including walking across the Golden Gate Bridge. These adventures await you when you sign up for the Bay Area Outdoor Adventures!
This course includes: Kayaking- Half Moon Bay (water and kayak provided) Indoor Rock Climbing- Planet Granite, Belmont (rocks and ropes provided) Ropes Course- (trees, ropes and fresh air provided) Hiking- Sweeney Ridge one day; Marin Headlands another day (provide your own feet) |

Course Description Scrapbooks and stamp art are great ways to preserve memories and create personal greetings for special people in our lives. Join us for a week of these fun crafts where we will create memory books, greeting cards, and other fun projects. Representatives from Stampin’ Up! and Creative Memories will be on campus to conduct workshops on introductory and advanced techniques through demonstrations and guided hands-on practice. As a group, we will leave campus for one day to tour the famous Mrs. Grossman’s sticker factory in Petaluma and choose from her impressive collection to help embellish our own work. At the end of the week we will have a group lunch where we will share what we have made. Everyone will leave the week-long workshop with basic materials, an impressive showcase of work, and enough skills to continue on her own. No artistic talent necessary! |

Course Description Do you admire the grace, precision of footwork and glamour of the dancers on “Dancing With the Stars”? Here is your chance to be more than an idle observer GET OUT OF THAT CHAIR! FEEL THE BEAT! Professional dance instructors from San Francisco’s popular Metronome Dance Center will be on Mercy’s campus to guide you through dances like Ballroom, Tango, Salsa, Swing and more in a relaxed, fun atmosphere. Classes will be held on campus, as well as at the Metronome Dance Center on 17th Street. Learning the history of the various dances only serves to make the dances more meaningful. Expect to learn and practice new dances every day; expect to laugh a lot; expect a week of experiences that will last a lifetime. |

Course Description Spend Intersession focused on your own fitness and wellness! During Intersession, you will get a great workout daily and also learn about fitness, nutrition, and how to make your body function at its optimal level. We will start each day at Mercy with a healthy, nutritious breakfast followed by workouts at these fitness centers: 24 Hour Fitness on Ocean, the YMCA Stonestown, and Bikram Yoga Inner Sunset Studio. Sessions will include Step Aerobics, Spin (Cycling), Kickboxing, Water Aerobics, Bikram Yoga, and Weight Training. Students will also meet with a nutritionist and be instructed on weight equipment by a personal physical trainer. By the end of the week expect to have shed a few beads of sweat, burned a few calories and feel great! You will definitely discover a few new ideas about how to keep healthy for the rest of your life. So come sweat with us – FUN INCLUDED! |

Course Description This course is designed to explore the different cultures in San Francisco through their art and food. We will uncover all of our senses by seeing, hearing, and touching the unique neighborhoods; smelling the wonderful aromas of foods being prepared and tasting these ethnic cuisines.
The class includes visits to: *Land’s End (tour of the Land’s End area, tour of the Cliff House, and lunch at Louis’ Restaurant) *North Beach (having coffee and a pastry, touring the murals in Coit Tower, and lunch at Ristorante Franchino) *Asian Art Museum (touring the museum's collections)/eating in Japantown *The class will conclude with the preparation of an elegant luncheon prepared by Chef Anthony Delicino and students in the Fourth Floor Kitchen. We will also create food baskets for needy families in San Francisco. Students will learn about the individual cultures that co-exist in their city, San Francisco and will share the writing of a class journal on the week’s activities. Students will need to provide their own comfortable walking shoes and spending money. |

Course Description Great films are being made all over the world – not just Hollywood! San Francisco is a cosmopolitan city where you can see a wealth of foreign films at independent movie theaters. Join us for a week of foreign films, including some with sub-titles. Hopefully, we’ll even see some Academy Award nominees! Specific movies will be determined in February

Course Description: Science – it’s all around us! Enjoy of a week of visiting some of the many science and technology museums the Bay Area has to offer, including the Intel Museum, Chabot Science and Space Center, San Jose Tech Museum and Bay Model. These are cool hands-on museums, where you’re expected to play with the exhibits! Have fun, enjoy a lunch in the heart of San Jose, and learn at the same time. |

Course Description We will take 5 wonderful hikes with breathtaking views from the hilltops of the watershed rim around San Francisco Bay. We will access the trail by public transit, with different starting and ending points for each segment/each day. We will be including San Bruno Mountain's ridge, which is not on the perimeter trail but which offers stunning views and unique habitat. We will also do two types of service learning on at least a couple of the days: we will do one day of habitat restoration (trail maintenance, removing invasive species, planting native species, erosion control, etc.) Another day we will work with inner-city children. The junior high students of the Tenderloin's DeMarillac school will join us on one of our hikes, and we will visit their school the afternoon before to prepare them and ourselves. This course will be chock-full of learning--about conservation and ecology, about urban access to wilderness, and about yourself! |

Course Description Want to find out if a teaching career is in your future? Do you like helping younger students? Have a fun and rewarding experience as a teacher’s aide. Students will work for at least four hours per day at an assigned school in grades K-5. This experience could be the start of something big! Attendance at a training session and a daily journal are required. Additionally, each Mercy student will receive an evaluation from the school which could help in future job searches. Community service hours will be given for this course. |

Dates: February 25-29, 2008 Course Description: Wouldn’t you love to make something that you could hug? “Teddy Bears Galore” is a course in which you will make your own Teddy Bear, complete with movable arms, legs, and head. Visit the Basic Brown Bear Factory near Fisherman’s Wharf! You’ll come away from the visit with a teddy bear to donate to the “Get on the Bus” program. Bonus: Learn how to crochet – make a scarf or decorative squares. Join us and learn the basics of hand sewing and crocheting. |
