Membership in the National Honors Society is one of the highest honors that can be awarded to a high school student. The NHS has worked to bring the accomplishments of outstanding students to the attention of parents, teachers, peers, and community. Chapters in more than 22,000 high schools across the nation strive to give practical meaning to the Society's goal of scholarship, service, leadership, and character.
Membership, however, is more than an honor. It carries with it more than certain privileges. It incurs a responsibility and an obligation to continue to demonstrate the qualities of scholarship, leadership, service, and character. Selection is based on a overall grade point average of 3.4 or higher and requires 30 hours of community service per year beyond the Mercy graduation requirement.
Qualified sophomores are invited into the society at the end of the fall semester.
