The Board of Directors and the Sisters of Mercy Leadership Team are pleased to announce the appointment of Scott McLarty as Head of School of Mercy High School, San Francisco beginning July 1, 2016. The Board and Sisters are grateful to the Search Committee for completing its task of finding the best fit for this leadership position. The Search Committee consisted of members of the Board of Directors, parents, faculty, alumnae, and community members. The Board wholeheartedly supported their recommendation. He will be building on the good work of those who led the school in years past. As Head of School, Mr. McLarty will ensure that the school’s operation is consistent with the mission and charism of the Sisters of Mercy and Venerable Catherine McAuley. Mr. McLarty describes himself as having made a fundamental commitment to Catholic education having worked in various Jesuit Sponsored High Schools both in northern and southern California, as well as Chicago. He brings thirteen years of Catholic education experience with him at both the secondary and collegiate levels. At the secondary level, he has taught theology and religious studies in both single gender and coeducational Jesuit schools. He has implemented project based learning and standards based grading and contributed to varied fundraising and marketing efforts. At the collegiate level, he taught as an adjunct professor in the Department of Catholic Studies at DePaul University in Chicago. Mr. McLarty also worked for the Archdiocese of Chicago as Director of the Office for Peace and Justice where he collaborated closely with the Vicar General and pastors to implement the policies and programs of the office. He was responsible for marketing, communication and fundraising, and representing the Archbishop in matters related to Catholic Social Teaching. Mr. McLarty was born and raised in Southern California attending Loyola High School in Los Angeles. He earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Theology and English and Master of Arts Degree in Theology at Loyola University, Chicago. He is currently a doctoral candidate at the University of San Francisco in their School of Education’s Institute for Catholic Educational Leadership. Returning to California in 2012, most recently Mr. McLarty has served as Director of Admissions and religion teacher at Bellarmine College Preparatory in San Jose. He serves on the Principal’s Council and the President’s Strategic Planning Committee and worked on Bellarmine’s California Jesuit Province Sponsorship Review Committee. He is also a member of the Parish Council at St. Clare’s Parish in Santa Clara and Chairman of the Board at Breathe California of the Bay Area. “I am both humbled by this new role and excited to get to know the Mercy High School Community,” said Mr. McLarty. “I look forward to getting started in July and cannot wait to start collaborating with the wonderful administration, faculty and staff I have heard so much about. I am eager to get to know the amazing and talented young women who call Mercy High School, San Francisco home.” The Mercy Community welcomes the McLarty family and looks forward to getting to know them better in the months and years to come.
