Parent Guild

By-Laws

 

  1. General Membership – All parents of Mercy students, by that very fact, are members of the Parent Guild.
  2. Executive Board – The Parent Guild is governed by an Executive Board composed of the elected Guild officers and others appointed to the Board by the President.
  3. Meetings – The Parent Guild Executive Board meets on the 2nd Wednesday of each month of the school year (September through May) except December. Board meetings are open sessions.
    There are at least three General Parent Meetings each school year.
  4. Officers – There are four Parent Guild officers:
    • The President chairs all Guild meetings, develops agenda, and appoints chairpersons of committees and non-officer members to the Executive Committee.
    • The Vice-President carries out the functions of the President in her/his absence. He/she carries out other functions as determined by the President.
    • The Secretary is responsible for keeping and recording minutes of all meetings and carrying out Guild correspondence.
    • The Treasurer deposits all funds into the Parent Guild checking account and prepares all disbursements from this same account upon the direction of the President and approval of the PG faculty advisor. The treasurer makes monthly financial reports to the Executive Board.
  5. Terms of Office – Officers are elected for one year terms. They serve from August through May. They may serve up to four consecutive terms. Nominations are made at the April meeting of the Guild by the members present. Officers are elected from the nominees by all members present at the May meeting.
  6. Committees – Committees are established by the President at his/her discretion. Chairpersons are appointed by the President. Chairpersons recruit and appoint their committee members.
  7. Hospitality Committee – Responsibilities include providing refreshments and meals for 3 Executive Board meetings and one general meeting.
  8. Hold Over Funds – The Parent Guild may not hold over more than $ 2,000 from the fiscal year of June 1 through May 30. Funds over $ 2,000 must be distributed to the Principal for the benefit of Mercy High School.
  9. Approval of By Laws – These and future by laws must be submitted for approval by the Principal and the Board of Directors before becoming effective.
  10. Amendments – The by laws may be amended by a quorum of Parent Guild members in attendance at a monthly Executive Board meeting and with the approval of the Principal and the Board of Directors.
