Mercy High School (www.mercyhs.org), the all-girls Catholic college preparatory high school in San Francisco, today announced that it has selected Angélica Quiñónez for the position of Assistant Head of School for Mission. Quiñónez will be responsible for the integration of the Sisters of Mercy charism and mission in the life of the school. She will oversee the school-wide mission integration and vision alignment in Campus Ministry, Community Service, Diversity and Inclusion, Athletics, Student Life, and Discipline.
In her role, Quiñónez will also work to create relationships and partnerships with outside communities and organizations especially other Mercy organizations, the Sisters of Mercy, Mercy Schools, Mercy initiatives and other Catholic schools and ministries. She will also continue to serve as Chair of the Religious Studies Department.
Quiñónez has been a member of the teaching faculty at Mercy since 2012. Since then she has held several leadership roles in the community, including chairing the Religious Studies Department for four years, serving as Co-Director of Intersession and Director of Summer Programs, leading the Catholic Identity group during the most recent accreditation, and serving as a faculty and staff representative. Prior to becoming an educator, Quiñónez was a public relations executive and social media specialist. with experience in new media, crisis communications, corporate social responsibility, and executive communications.
A San Francisco native, Quiñónez has a lifelong passion for Catholic schools. She has attended Catholic schools since the age of four and strongly believes in the mission of Catholic education. “I am blessed and humbled by the opportunity to help lead Mercy forward,” said Quiñónez. “These are exciting times for our community and I am excited to work with our faculty and staff, students, and families in realizing our shared mission. Catholic schools have been an integral part of my formation as a woman of faith and an educator; I look forward to continuing to strengthen our Catholic identity and further deepen our experience of the Gospel and the Mercy charism.”

Quiñónez holds a Bachelor of Arts in English from Santa Clara University, a Master of Arts in Theology from the University of San Francisco, and a Master of Arts in Catholic School Teaching from the University of San Francisco Institute for Catholic Educational Leadership. An avid blogger, she has been published in U.S. Catholic and Patheos.com. Her teaching has been recognized by the University of Nevada at Las Vegas and Carleton College.
