Study guide for Ch 7 test //

PLEASE DO NOT worry about memorizing all of the steps of the Calvin Cycle!!!!
I just want you to know the GENERAL processes that occur.
This study guide should help.... =)

Chapter 7
- how long ago did photosynthesis evolve? what organisms were the first to photosynthesize?
- what are the colors that are represented by visible light? what color has the shortest wavelength? highest energy?
- what is the electromagnetic spectrum?
- what is a pigment? chlorophyll a? b? xanthophyll? carotenoids? what wavelengths of light do they absorb?
- draw the structure of a chloroplast and define all of its parts
- draw the structure of a cross section of a leaf; identify all of the parts; where does photosynthesis take place?
- what is the function of STOMATA? what is the function of the STROMA? where are each located?
- know the results of the "Leaf Structures" lab
- describe the steps in the LIGHT REACTIONS; where do they occur? what is the net gain?
- describe the steps in the DARK REACTIONS (Calvin cycle); where do they occur? what happens to all of the glyceraldehyde phosphate (G3P) produced in the Calvin Cycle? how many turn do you need to make ONE glucose molecule?
- know steps from "Calvin Cycle - Dark Reactions" handout we went over in class.
- what's the difference between C3, C4 and CAM plants?
- know results from "Chromatography" lab
