extra credit assignment: ANIMAL KINGDOM

Extra credit assignment: Animal Kingdom (2nd semester) //
Directions:
Go to the San Francisco or Oakland Zoo to observe and draw 10 animals.

SF Zoo: You can find directions, prices, and hours on their website
There is a discount for SF residents (with proof of residency) and Weds. May 4th is FREE.

Oakland Zoo: You can find directions, prices, and hours on their website

You must turn in your receipt with your assignment in order to get credit, so make sure to keep it!

In order to get extra credit you must complete the following: [10 points]
- go to 10 exhibits
- take detailed notes on at least 10 animals:
      a) draw each animal (in pencil!)
      b) write down the scientific name, common name, and country of origin
      c) is the animal an INVERTEBRATE or a VERTEBRATE?
           If it's an invertebrate, what PHYLUM does it belong to?
           If it's a vertebrate, what CLASS does it belong to?
           (note: you may need to find the CLASS and ORDER your self)
      d) in 2-3 sentences, explain how the animal is ADAPTED to living in its natural environment.

[Your drawings must be thorough (draw to the best of your ability) and your descriptions complete in order to get the maximum points.]

To receive "extra" extra credit you can do the following:
a) Special Events
- go to: Oakland Zoo's Event website or SF Zoo's Event website to get dates and times of special events that are being hosted by the zoos.
- You will have to turn in evidence that you were at the special event - notes on the presentation, etc. Please try and get the signature of a zoo representative.

b) Take photos to include with your 10 animal drawings from above. Please present the photos next to your drawing and description from above. Photos will be returned back to you.

NOTE: you may not turn the photos in in groups - NO DUPLICATES!! You must also still draw the animals as well!!!
Extra Credit Assignment is due 5/15 - no exceptions!!
