Directions (per lab group): 1. Find one of each item on the list on the next pages. You and your lab partners need to devise an organized "plan of attack" in order to find all of the items. 2. To find every item on the list, you will need to draw on your knowledge of the five-kingdom classification system. You are encouraged to consult your textbook and reference books as well. 3. Do NOT collect specimens from marine reserves, neighborÕs yards, etc.! Be responsible and do not disturb the habitat. 4. Most of the items on the list need no special handling, with the exception of botanical specimens: a) Seaweed samples should be saved in jars of rubbing alcohol. b) Leaves and flowers will keep a few days in sealed, misted Ziploc bags in the refrigerator. c) Fungi may last a day or two wrapped in paper towel and kept in a dry plastic bag in the refrigerator. 5. Packing everything as tightly as possible, you need to bring your collection of items to school for the "unveiling" on: ----------- Happy Scavenging!!! |

- Completeness of the collection [NOTE: there are 40 items; 1/2 point each = 20 points] - Having the correct collected item according to the description [1/8 point each = 5 points] - Tagging each item with the item number, description and name of person who collected it. Tags must be easy to find and read. [1/8 point each = 5 points] - Creativity in your presentation of the items. [5 points] - Equal participation from all group members [5 points] |
