| cell structure & function project guidelines // [ 40 points total ] |
| There are two parts to this project: 1) You will create a 'book' on the structure and functions of the cell, and 2) you will prepare a presentation for the class on one of the topics listed below. |
|
1) BIG Cell Book (groups of 8) // [ 20 points ]

Organelles: This will be an overlay of the structure of the cell. Students will draw the different organelles of the cell in different colored markers or using construction paper in the shape or each organelle. Each organelle (or groups of organelles) will be on a separate transparent page (a clear part of a shower curtain) and all will be organized so that when the 'book' is closed all the parts are super-imposed to form a 3-D picture of the cell. Each student in a group will have to make their own part of the overlay picture. Make sure organelles are drawn to scale!!!! a) You will need to include the following organelles for an ANIMAL CELL: [8 points]
You will also need to include the following organelles for a PLANT CELL:
You will need to include the following organelles for a PROKARYOTE:
b) On each page, TYPE out the following information: [8 points] a. The name of the organelle b. The description of the organelle c. The function of the organelle c) Color Key: You will need to include a COLOR KEY for each of the organelles. [2 points] d) Neatness: Accuracy of placement, correct scale, drawn to scale. 2) Presentation (groups of 4) // [ 20 points ]

You will need to prepare a 10-15 minute presentation for the class on one of the topics below.
Please include the use of overhead transparencies and other visual aids.
You will need to prepare a lecture outline or a handout that can be used during your presentation.
Please have Mrs. Howett check your outline or handout the day before your presentation.
You will be graded on utilization of visual aids, accurate presentation of the information and equal participation from your group.
