Beginning Ceramics B – Research Quiz
You will be working with a partner for this quiz. There are two parts to the quiz: Books and Computers. Write your answers in the space provided below each question.
You do not need to print out anything from the computers! Just make brief notes when you find something relevant. Make a note of your source (book or website).
Books: There are nine books that are on the stacks for this part of the activity. The books are: Atlas of the Islamic World Since 1500; Clay and Glazes for the Potter; Encyclopedia of China; They Wrote on Clay; Pottery in the Making; Stoneware and Porcelain; Storytellers and other Figurative Pottery, The Living Tradition of Maria Martinez, and The Pueblo Storyteller. Using the books for the first 15 questions, tell me what you can find out about the following subjects:

13. Who were the three Cochiti potters who have their
storytellers on permanent display in Albuquerque, New Mexico?
14. What is an updraft kiln? What is one advantage of using an updraft kiln?
15. In the Dowayo tribe of West Africa, who makes the pottery? What tools are used to create their pottery?
Computers: You do not need to print out
