Food is Art/Art is Food

Course Cost:              $150.00

The course includes all admission to museums and tours, bus fares, and meals.

 

Dates:             February 25-29, 2008

 

This class is designed to explore the different cultures in San Francisco through their art and food.  We will uncover all of our senses by
seeing, hearing, and touching the unique neighborhoods and smelling the wonderful aromas of foods being prepared and tasting these ethnic cuisines. 

 

The class will include visits to:

 

Monday, February 25 - Land’s End

We will tour the Land’s End area, tour the Cliff House  and lunch at Louis’ RestaurantPhoto
 

Tuesday, February 26 - North Beach

 

We will have coffee and a pastry in local coffeehouses, touring the murals in Coit Tower
and have a late lunch at Ristorante Franchino
 

Wednesday, February 27 - Asian Art Museum
We will tour the Asian Art Museum's collections and eat at a Japanese restaurant

Thursday, February 28 - Holy Trinity Cathedral

We will tour the church and its historical artworks and have a late lunch at a local Greek restaurant  

 

Friday, February 29 - Elegant Dinner

The class will conclude with the preparation of an elegant dinner prepared by Chef Anthony Delicino
and the Food is Art students in Mercy's Fourth Floor Kitchen.  We will also create food baskets for needy families in San Francisco.

 

Students will learn about the individual cultures that co-exist in their city, San Francisco.  Students will share the writing of a class journal
on the week’s activities.  Students will need to provide their own comfortable walking shoes and spending money.
